The Gold Box

Some time ago, a man lived with his 3 year-old daughter. The Christmas holiday soon arrived and money was tight for the small family. One afternoon the father became infuriated when he found the child trying to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree. He punished her for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning. With her arms stretched out high, she handed him the present and said smiling, "This is for you, Daddy."

He was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found the box to be empty. He scolded and criticized her saying, "Don't you know that when you give someone a present, there's supposed to be something inside it?"

The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh Daddy, it is not empty. You see, I blew kisses into the box and filled it just for you."

The father was crushed by his behavior aimed at his daughter. He put his arms around his little girl, and begged for her forgiveness. It is told that the man kept the gold box by his bed for years. Whenever he became discouraged, he would open the box taking out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.
